Conventional Machining

Conventional Machining

What is it?

Conventional machining is the method of choice for many jobs. Hand operated machines can be used to mill and turn many designs. Each machine is equipped with a digital position readout with a resolution of at least 0.0005" (0.0127 mm). Using these digital scales and precision tooling and fixturing, our manual machines hold tolerances on the order of +/- 0.001" (0.0254 mm).

Auxiliary equipment for preparatory work include a cutoff saw, vertical band saw. In addition to chip-making, we also carry out several other traditional metalworking tasks, such as arc welding, brazing, heat treating, and light forming.

What can it do?

The abilities of a conventional machine are highly dependent on the skills of the operator. Using special fixtures and tooling, our machinists are capable of completing many advanced tasks using these machines.

Is it for me?

When the programming and setup time of a computerized machine would not make sense, such as for simple designs, using hand operated machines to produce the part becomes the more sensible alternative.
